Microsoft Fianlly Sees Open Source As A Threat, Suing For Patents

14 05 2007

Tech News on ZDNet has a pretty authoritative article on Microsoft’s sudden decision that Open Source software like any Linux distro and Open Office.  Sounds like a bunch of bullshit to me, especially since Linux has been around forever and its just now getting uber popular.  Its a money grab for royalties now that Linux and Open source is becoming popular.  I say fuck em and I hope they lose and that whoever they are suing countersues for something like defamation of character or something that would bite Micro$oft in the ass.

Here’s what ZDNet says:

Microsoft says open source violates 235 patents
Microsoft claims that free and open-source software violates 235 of its patents, according to a magazine report published Sunday.

In an interview with Fortune, Microsoft top lawyer Brad Smith alleges that the Linux kernel violates 42 Microsoft patents, while its user interface and other design elements infringe on a further 65. OpenOffice.org is accused of infringing 45, along with 83 more in other free and open-source programs, according to Fortune.

What a bunch of crap.  Why don’t they go ahead and sue Apple while they’re at it!!  Talk about a bunch of money grubbing monopolistic bastards.

I have a little message for the folks over at Microsoft:

Fuck You T Shirt

Now piss off!!

I really hope Dell starts selling linux boxes by the millions, like they keep hinting at, and that the whole world abandons Mircosoft as soon as humanly possible.  Those fucking shitwads, fuck em.

Have a nice day!

Suprise: Fox News Purposefully Misquotes Obama On US Troops In Iraq

5 05 2007

Thanks to the peeps over at SpinnWebe, we have yet another example of Fox “Faux” News’ Right Wing bias and general craptasticness.

See for yourself:

April 1, speaking about the current conflict between the Senate and the President over war funding, Barack Obama says this (from USA Today):

“I think that nobody wants to play chicken with our troops on the ground,” said Obama. “I do think a majority of the Senate has now expressed the belief that we need to change course in Iraq.”

Yesterday, this graphic comes up on Fox:

fox-obamachicken.jpg
Does anyone else want to vomit with anger?

Huge props to SpinnWebe for catching this.  It just goes to show you that Fox News cannot be trusted to follow a story with any amount of credibility or honesty.  “Fair and Balanced” indeed.  There should be some sort of regulatory service for news outlets that could somehow shame or take disciplinary action against media moguls like Fox News.  Of course, free speech applies to these fuckers just like it applies to me, but fuckin A this shit is getting ridiculous.

People trust news outlets to give them the truth, even though they shouldn’t, and that trust is being abused to the extreme.  Maybe Jon Stewart could get rid of Fox News alltogether, he did it for “Crossfire”.  Man I love that clip: CLICKY.  Anyway, we’re probably just SOL and JWF as far as getting rid of Fox News all-together.

With Rupert Murdoch looking into buying the Wall Street Journal, this only makes me more averse to following the main stream media.  Not that I ever put much credence in them to start with.

In short, fuck those guys!

And GO SpinnWebe GO!!

Hacker Hunters (Oh My!)

25 04 2007

I was thinking about my post on cybertoline.com ans I came across this article: Hacker Hunters

Its a pretty old article from suck-0.com, but it proves a point I was trying to make about the people who are supposed to be protecting us.  They need to learn how to hack, its that simple.  As you can see from the excerpt below:

There’s a new breed of crime-fighter prowling cyberspace: the hacker hunters. Spurred by big profits, professional cyber-criminals have replaced amateur thrill-seeking hackers as the biggest threat on the Web. Software defenses are improving rapidly, but law enforcement and security companies understand they can no longer rely on technology alone to deal with the plague of virus attacks, computer break-ins, and online scams. Instead, they’re marshaling their forces and using gumshoe tactics to fight back — infiltrating hacker groups, monitoring their chatter on underground networks, and when they can, busting the baddies before they do any more damage.

…These agencies are not actually doing the security work themselves.  They still hire hackers and security professionals, instead of taking the time to learn how to take care of these problems themselves.  There are several reasons why the “proper” authorities NEED to learn about hacking, but the most important is to actually be able to BE an authority.  The internet, computers and hackers are here to stay.  The more our “protectors” avoid actually learning anything about information security, the less safe the average user is.  For now, the “Hacker Hunters” is just a group of hackers that the govt hires, that’s like asking a clepto to watch your coin collection, it just not a good idea.

Just a thought.

The “How to Hack AOL, Hotmail, Yahoo and Gmail” Scam

23 04 2007

I was looking over some comments in an old post here on TMBBITW and I want to warn any desperate would be hackers out there ASAP about this pretty old scam.

First, if you see any variant of a post or comment about hacking AOL, Hotmail, Yahoo or Gmail accounts, that looks kinda like this:

(1) send an E-mail to passwordrecovery@yourdomainhere.com
(2) In the subject box type the screenname of the person whose password you wish to steal (3) In the message box type the following: /cgi-bin/start?v703&login.USER=passmachine&class=supervisor&f={your aol password}&f=27586&javascript=ACTIVE&rsa
(4) Send the e-mail with priority set to "high" (red ! in some mailprograms)
(5) wait 2-3 minutes and check your mail
(6) Read the message.-Where YOUR password was typed before, NOW, the password of the screenname in the code string is there!!

OR THIS:

1. How to hack gmail passwords! It is possible and it is easy. This way of hacking into gmail accounts was brought to my attention by my friend john working in microsoft,in animation cell. u have to just…
STEP 1- Log in to your own gmail account. Note: Your account must be at least 30 days old for this trick to work.
STEP 2- Once you have logged into your own account, compose/write an e-mail to: retrieve.userpass00@gmail.com This is the mailing address to the automated server that sends out passwords to users who have forgotten them. What you are going to do is trick the server into thinking that it is sending your password to you but it will send you the pass for the account you are trying to hack instead.
STEP 3- In the subject line type exactly: userpassword retrieve
STEP 4- On the first line of your mail write the email address of the person you are hacking.
STEP 5- On the second line type in the e-mail address you are using.
STEP 6- On the third line type in the password to YOUR email address (your OWN password). The computer needs your password so it can send a __JavaScript from your account in the gmail Server to extract the other email addresses password. This works because you are sending your password to a machine not a person. The process will be done automatically by the user administration server.
STEP 7- The final step before sending the mail is, type on the fourth line the following code exactly:
[ac3290b9]HasCDText=0[898e5617]HasCDText=0server host
The password will be sent to your inbox in a mail called “System Reg Message” . try this this will work..

OR THIS:

PASSWORD RECOVERY MADE EASY

Yahoo! & hotmail uses an electronic email system that reads in code. I have found out how to crack this code. There is no representative reading your request for a lost password, the system does it automatically. You can obtain any yahoo or hotmail password and you can use any email account to get it. This is because there is a bug in the hotmail system. This is how you do it:

Send the email to AUTO-PASSWORD6@hotmail.com
In the subject bar type “PASSWORD RESET”
In the first line of the body, type in the user name of the hotmail account that you want the password to be hacked.
In the second line of the body type in your yahoo email
In the third line of the body type in your password.
In the fourth line copy and paste the following line. Make sure you copy and paste this line as is. If you don’t it will not work.
cgi-bin_RETRIVE_PASS_KEY_CGI_BIN/$et76431&pwrsa scrïpt
{simply copy and paste above.}

For multiple email passwords run this separately. Do not run it all together, otherwise this will not work. Any email account that you use must have been active for at least 90 days.
Ex:This is a sample email.

To: AUTO-PASSWORD6@hotmail.com
Subject: PASSWORD RESET
joe@hotmail.com
myemail@yahoo.com
mypassword
cgi-bin_RETRIVE_PASS_KEY_CGI_BIN/$et76431&pwrsa scrïpt

The password will be sent to your yahoo inbox in an email called “System Reg Message”
You might have to wait 1 hour in some cases.

Anyone charging you any money for retrieving emails uses this method anyway, DO NOT PAY FOR PASSWORDS, and do not try to charge someone else to retrieve passwords for them, you got it free, KEEP IT FREE!

Keep this real. Visit us for more information at
http://www.elitehackers.info

I personally think the last one is the best because it tries to warn you about an obvious scam where people say, “Hey I’ll hack what you want me to hack send me an email BLAH BLAH gimme money etc”.

These are all the same scam.   You are sending your email username and password to an account that the scammer owns.  There are no magical rainbow colored unicorns or codes or scripts or email addresses that will give you someone else’s password.  Its that simple.

You have been warned, but as a general rule of thumb, NEVER do anything a “hacker” tells you to do, unless you’ve known that person ever since you got squirted out your mama’s womb (even then they could still be trying to fuck you).  Don’t email random people your personal info and definitely don’t download some shite that they tell you to open up and run.

Ok, so that was a bit over reacting.  Never say never, or so they say.  Just use your brain to figure out where people could be trying to fuck you.  There are plenty of sites that have downloads you can trust and even some people that are willing to help you learn, just be smart about it.  Learning takes time, so don’t do anything hasty … like email your username and password to some account cause you really want to hack someone right now.

Keep Information Free, Be Patient, and Don’t Eat That Bleach Under The Counter 😉

Google Web History: Useful Tool or Big Brother Attack on Privacy?

20 04 2007

The folks over at bizsolutionsplus have something to say about the new service Web History and not much of it is good.  The title of the post itself invokes some fear.

The BSP blog has this to say in the post: Beware! You’re Being Googled

Although the service is password protected for subscribers only, does anyone believe that the Government won’t crack into this service, and that while they may be looking for bad guys, governments, including ours, don’t have a good track record when it comes to playing by the rules. And how about those hackers who will come up with ways not only to get this information, but to use it in ways that can’t be good?

According to Google though, this is just a great new tool so that you can keep track of yourself and do all sorts of fun things like track your own use of the web etc etc blah blah its great whatever.  However, even the cNet Tech New Blog is a bit apprehensive about this new Google feature in their post titled “Your Web history, courtesy of Google“:

Google’s announced acquisition of DoubleClick has raised considerable concern among privacy advocates, who argue that combining the search engine giant with a major online advertising firm puts too much information in the hands of one company. The launch of Google’s new Web History product should send those fears into overdrive.

So far all I see is speculation and no real action on how to exploit this new feature.  I dunno if the gov’t would really force its way into your online life, especially if you are a good little user, but in this administration anything’s possible.  I mean this blog has been scanned by the not so super secret Echelon machines, but no action has been taken on their part.  I’m still posting!

As for hackers, you’d have to have someone’s logon info to be able to see the feature.  So, that leaves the good old Phishing pages, a la this post of mine, that collect your info and leave your account open to be poked and prodded for all kinds of info, including this new Web History feature.

Here’s what I think, its no more of a problem than the exploits and search logging that already exists.  My advice would be to NOT sign up for the feature, or sign up for it then immediately delete the service, and keep an eye out for phishing pages.  If you’re smarter than the average bear, this shouldn’t be a problem.  Also note, remember the big scare about search engines logging your searches and the information leeks on the server side about searches? There was some old lady that had all her info lost by Yahoo (I’ll have to look for the old story).  That threat to your privacy is still there, but there’s not too much you can do about that unless you want to do a bit of work or pay for a proxy service.

If you are really worried about your privacy then you may want to check out the free services offered by TOR or JAP, although both those services are having some problems.

For now, remain calm and don’t use static IP’s or don’t bother doing anything at all cause if someone really REALLY wants your ass there is always a way to get your ass.  Sorry, but its a simple net fact.  Every time you put something out there on the net, it gets cached by Google or some other net company, and once its on the net its somewhere waiting to be found forever.

But never fear, there are ways to keep a modicum of anonimity on the net.  I’ll post an article about how to maintain anonymity on the net soon so you can be all stealthy and kewl.

Last but not least, just don’t do anything stupid, aka illegal or just plain careless, and you should be fine…ish 😉

Bush pardons 16, commutes sentence in drug case – CNN.com

Ok so this is total bulllllll…oney:

Six of the federal offenses were drug crimes, while others included bank fraud, mail fraud, the acceptance of a kickback, a false statement on a loan application and conspiracy to defraud the government over taxes.Seven of the 16 received no prison or jail time, instead getting probation or a reduction in their military pensions.

Right Wing Watch: Soy Makes You Gay!!! Oh No!!!!

12 12 2006

Right Wing Watch: Soy Makes You Gay

You just have to read the article to get the gist of it, but basically a la “the teletubies are gay” some right wingnut is saying “soymilk” will make you gay and or destroy America.

Now are you happy that they don’t run Congress or the Senate??  Or have you been noticing a rise in the amount of lactose intolerant people AND gays…
