The Message (1982) (Video)

“The Message”, by Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, is the first rap song to actually talk about the situation of living in an urban ghetto.  It is commonly referred to  as THE seminal “Rap” song.  Although Run-D-MC is credited with really bringing Rap into the limelight, this track set the stage for NWA to later on speak even further on the subject of urban low level socio-economic life and simply being marginalized African Americans.

Who’d a think that hat would be a part of musical history.
