Link via – – Rep. Harris: Church-state separation ‘a lie’ – Aug 28, 2006

This lady has gone all Al Qaida.  I cannot believe she is actually a member of our Government:

U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris told a religious journal that separation of church and state is “a lie” and God and the nation’s founding fathers did not intend the country be “a nation of secular laws.”The Republican candidate for U.S. Senate also said that if Christians are not elected, politicians will “legislate sin,” including abortion and gay marriage.

Harris made the comments — which she clarified Saturday — in the Florida Baptist Witness, the weekly journal of the Florida Baptist State Convention, which interviewed political candidates and asked them about religion and their positions on issues.

Separation of church and state is “a lie we have been told,” Harris said in the interview, published Thursday, saying separating religion and politics is “wrong because God is the one who chooses our rulers.”
Electing non-Christians a ‘legislative sin’

“If you’re not electing Christians, then in essence you are going to legislate sin,” Harris said.

Legislate “sin”!?!?!  Separation of Church and State is a lie!!  What the fuck is this lady talking about? She sounds like an idiot that has no knowledge of history or religion beyond what her  TV evangelist has told her.

Our founding fathers created a distinct separation of Church and State for one reason, to keep church and state separate!  They had seen what Absolute Monarchies could do with their “divine right” and how any involvement of the irrational (NOTE: leap of faith is a purposeful step into believing something without proof, ie it is irrational by definition) in a government must be completely avoided.  They had seen the power of the Vatican and the madness of Henry the VIII.  They DID NOT WANT church and state to be in anyway intertwined.  Yes they were God fearing men, yes they leaned toward Christian tenets in lawmaking, but they left out the words “Christian” in their laws and declarations for a good reason, because they had seen what theocracies could do, and how badly a government influenced by religion could fail their own people (Spanish Inquisition much).

Our Founding Father did, in fact, mean for America to be a country of secular laws, see as way of proof “Freedom of Religion in the Bill of rights” and several thousand books on our founding fathers.  It is widely known that Ben Franklin was a Unitarian, which is more of a mash up of all world religions than a form of Christianity.  He was even quoted one time saying, “As to the divinity of Jesus, I have my doubts.”  If that ain’t the opposite of christian I don’t know what is.

Rep. Katherine Harris you have been awarded the ASSHOLE of The Month bitch slap.  Please come and collect it immediately.

BTW – Who let this bitch out the kitchen?!?!?!
